How to Start (or Restart) Your Yoga Practice Without Judgment
By Twist of Fate Yoga and Tarot – Private & Group Classes + Special Events in Morristown, NJ & Online
Starting yoga—or coming back to it after a break—can feel intimidating. Maybe you’re worried you’re not flexible enough, strong enough, or that yoga isn’t “enough of a workout.” I hear this all the time, and I want to gently remind you: yoga is a practice, not a performance.
At Twist of Fate Yoga and Tarot, I work with students of all levels, helping them build confidence, strength, and mental wellbeing through breath, movement, and meditation. Whether you're brand new or returning after time away, here’s how to ease into your practice with grace and curiosity.
Let Go of the “Not Enough” Story
You don’t need to touch your toes to do yoga. You don’t need fancy leggings or a perfect downward dog. You just need a willingness to show up. Yoga meets you where you are—not where you think you should be.
Flexibility, strength, and balance come with time. What matters most is consistency and non-attachment to the outcome. That means letting go of the need to “achieve” a pose and instead focusing on how it feels in your body.
Yoga Is a Workout—Just Not in the Way You Might Expect
If you’re used to high-intensity workouts, yoga might feel slow at first. But don’t be fooled—yoga builds physical wellbeing and strength in a deeply sustainable way. It strengthens your core, improves posture, increases mobility, and enhances body awareness.
More importantly, it supports your mental wellbeing. Through breath and meditation, yoga helps regulate your nervous system, reduce stress, and cultivate emotional resilience.
Start Small, Stay Consistent
You don’t need to commit to an hour a day. Even 10–15 minutes of mindful movement and breathwork can make a difference. The key is consistency. The more you show up, the more your body and mind begin to respond.
Here are a few beginner-friendly tips:
Focus on your breath—it’s your most powerful tool.
Choose gentle classes or private sessions to build confidence.
Be kind to yourself. Progress is not linear.
Use props! Blocks, straps, and blankets are your friends.
You’re Not Alone—Let’s Practice Together
